Speed Limiter/ Cruise control

Post by meggles »

Hi folks. After my indiscretion I am wondering if anybody has ever fitted an aftermarket speed limiter/cruise control to their vehicle. I need one for my 2007 Nissan Note Diesel. What sort of price? How easy to fit? Thanks

I'd check with a Nissan dealer first of all in case it can be retro fitted. If it was fitted as an option during production then the wiring is probably already in the car. Vm's tend to make just the one wiring loom to reduce cost.

I had cruise control fitted by a dealer on a then new 05 Skoda Octavia using an manufacturer accessory kit which was identical in every detail.

:ok

Thanks for replies. I'll check with the dealer. Satnav idea ok but would prefer a speed limiter if reasonable price.

it won't help if you are doing 40 and enter a 30 zone you will still have to notice the limits.
cruise control only works on motorways imo and even then not in heavy traffic.

When I got done many years ago i started paying muchmore attention to limits

you often follow a car doing 40 in a 50 which continues to do 40 in a 30
they obviously have no idea of limits.

No sign is 30 or national speed limit

A lot of my driving is in towns and cities so it will help. You are right, of course, I still need to watch the speed limit signs.

I've fitted aftermarket cruise to both my t25 & subaru.
Wiring is a piece of cake. It's the throttle that's difficult if it's a mechanical pull cable like the t25.
If it's a pot on the pedal to send a signal to the ecu, it's just 2 more wires.
The kits I used will run off a speed sensor wire, or from your coil if there's no speed sensing.
I'll try to find out what kit I used if you're interested.

The kit i used is an ap500, with a cm35 stalk.

Depending on the car, that might not be the correct kit.

Google "ap500 cruise control" and there's loads of info.

I use a company in Sheffield, no other reason than I trust them with anything to do with after market car electronics.
Source Sounds, 0114 257 1550.
They do Web stuff, but they're all about service not sales.
This is the kit they recommended for me, but they'll make sure you get the right one.

I use the same ap500 kit on my impreza, so I guess you be good.

The throttle arm on mine is a double lever job, made for cruise control that wasn't a subara UK option.
The ap 500 drops straight on to that lever.

irishkeet: Sorry, no! Had some mechanical problems so I decided to buy a new car. Then got the problems sorted and haven't got around to dealing with speed limiter. Relying on the SatNav to keep me an innocent man. I think I've decided, sort of, to buy a car with it already fitted TBH. Not really made my mind up yet. I've since retired so doing a lot less miles so not going to spend a lot on a new car. Might even buy the wife a new/another car and use hers which already has it fitted. Didn't get very far with the research so can't help a lot, sorry.
