And why should I be jealous of you feeling the need to dress your lamp with a SKIRT

Is the Vapalux the British equivalent of the German Petromax? Nice looking lamps

Re: Petromax Lighting Problems
Yup...Bialladin, Tilley, Vapalux...not as bright as your Petromax, these are around 250CP but they are generally cheaper to buy, the mantles less delicate (being supported both ends) brass base, aluminium cage and with an enamelled top makes them fairly resilient to major corrosion and physically less bulky than the large 500CP Petromax, which is a plus when camping.
The Vapalux M320 is still available new, although I would just make sure it's new 'old stock' as even Vapalux is now being made abroad.

Near the €150 mark. eBay.de is king when it comes to buying one. You can pick up one at good money including the steel case. The first one i bought was a 1964 and now have a '59. Simple yet great engineering

Re: Petromax Lighting Problems
You're obviously willing to pay the extra for 'vintage' as a brand new 'Brass' Petromax 500HK will only set you back £100.......older ones were definitely made better though.

Re: Petromax Lighting Problems
In my mind, a German built Petromax is the only Petromax. New lamps are just poor copies and are built in China or India I think. Looking at one and seeing " Made in Germany " stamped on it, you know its quality. Will get a few pics up the next time I am home, hopefully towards the end of the week.

Re: Petromax Lighting Problems
I agree....that's what I wrote earlier in the thread.
The build quality is obvious when you put them side by side with the main difference being the gauge of materials used.
