Refurbing chrome hub caps

Post by mariner »

Hi all. Having spent a while looking for alloys I've now decided a cheaper and more straightforward option might be a refurb of the steelies and chrome hubcaps I have.

Will get the wheels done professionally but will probably attack the hubcaps myself. There's a bit of rust on them and the chrome is starting to peel on some of the caps so will give them a good rub down. Does anyone have any recommendations for primers/rust inhibitors/top coat that I should use to get them looking like new again? Cheers

oh, that's not great to hear. I've seen the half moon ones done by JK but like the originals with VW embosting. Also trying to keep costs down! Might have to rethink.

They went quiet for a while, then I saw them on eBay last month for £30 inc PP or their website was £25.95 inc PP so I bought some more as spares and they arrived in a couple of days.

I'm curious as to whether the use of the VW device (logo) has something to do with the availability?

Nah, none of the hubcaps currently available are really vw parts are they? Would make things very expensive once you add main dealer tax.

Google gives the likely answer

https://www.copyrightaid.co.uk/forum/vi ... 1666#p4227" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These would most likely fall under the spare parts piece.

My gut is they are making a batch and selling them before getting more

Spare parts and trade marks are two separate issues. Spares with or without the device.....
