BMW 16" Steelies

Post by Palscan »

Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience with BMW steelies? I know the Merc or Mefro's are more commonly used but Merc steelies don't seem to be that easy to come by and there are a few good deals on BMW wheels on ebay at the moment. However, they don't seem to list the stud pattern in quite the same way, instead referring to some BMW standard - F30, F31, F35 etc? Looking to go 215/65/16 on 16inch 7J rims and found the following below at a good price. Also like the oval look holes...
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4x-Stahlfelg ... %7Ciid%3A1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also, on tyre choice I love the look of the AT tyres but don't do much off-roading, am I wasting my money and compromising fuel consumption and comfort unnecessarily?
Mine's an 89' Westy 2WD with stock suspension, would love to increase the height but my AFN TDI conversion with flipped passat gearbox (smug face) is likely to grumble as its already pushing the CV joint somewhat so hoping to achieve the 'high look' with bigger tyres alone.
Any thoughts/ help appreciated,
Cheers,

I think you'll find that the BMW wheels have a larger centre bore. Wheels really need to centre on the hub/flange, different bolt face too on BMW

That just refers to what model BMW, bit like mk1, mk2 etc

Anyway - they are 5x120 pcd so not really an option anyway.

Thanks guys,
Yeah I thought the code listed had nothing to do with wheel spacing, showing my ignorance there!
Probably better to keep and eye out for Merc steelies then; I’m in no rush.
Any thoughts on tyre choice/ setup?

If the wheels have a larger centre bore just source some spigot rings to reduce the inner dia to that of the hub.
You can get plastic ones, or get a local machine shop to knock some up for you.
That's what I did years ago when I wanted to fit a pair of alloys from my wifes Golf to her Megane coupe.
PCS matched but the bore didn't.

I got 4 16" Merc steels for approx 120 euros delivered from German eBay a couple of years ago. Might be worth looking there..
