Check your ETs
The van's always been tricky to steer, especially three point turns and has always had the same wheels. I put it down to lack of power steering. I recently bought some replacement wheels and whilst they don't look great it meant I looked at the old Empis that were on. They had an ET of 12. So while I don't like the new wheels to look at, the steering is so much easier, might be worth checking your own if they've always been on the van.

Hahaha...
No wonder you had heavy steering though. You must have arms like popeye.

Empis should not be fitted to T3s.

Re: Check your ETs
Shame as I liked the look. To make matters worse, woke up to find a totally flat tyre. It must have been damaged when they switched them over. PITA as is my only vehicle. They fitted it again but on the way home someone wound their window down to say wheel was wobbling badly. Looking online it seems that the tyre might be too stretched - is nothing ever straightforward for me after going to a garage

Wheel nuts were finger tight and wheel was ready to fall off. Worth double checking after a garage has had our wheels off

You have got to be the unluckiest T3 owner ever.

Re: Check your ETs
I reckon so Rob. Mostly as a result of "pooh" garages round here. Sick of it and I'm going to the small claims court to see if I can get my money back from the garage that FUd my gear box first time round. Checked other wheels, a lot weren't tight,

Re: Check your ETs
to be totally honest, it IS your responsibility to check your wheel nuts when a wheel has been off, within 100km we were always told
normally anywhere that takes wheels off leaves a tag on the keys to remind you to check..... they should however have tightened them to the correct tightness when refitting them, although new wheels are notorious for coming slack first time on if the seats are painted or powdercoated especially

IMHO that's just liability management. Every time my truck goes in or has a tyre change the wheeltrims are left off and there's a sticker saying the wheel nuts need to be re-torqued. I point out that I don't have the equipment to perform such an operation.
B2B might work, I can't see the risk transfer being successful in a consumer environment. However, on more than one occasion I have taken a car back to a garage because they have over torqued wheel nuts (i.e just used the whizzy gun).

Re: Check your ETs
One of the tyre fitters over here now torque up the wheels to manufactures specs, it doesn't take long to find out what they should be . It should be standard practice everywhere.
