Big wheels
Hi I'v put bigger tyres on the back of my t3, 205 r 16 ,
It seems to be easier on the engine driving it around town
Not that over reving on the engine .
Up and down little hills in south shields
And using the Sat nav for the speed as there is quite a bit of difference from the Speedo

Unless you have also changed the front wheels , it will have made no difference to the speedo , unless it's a syncro

Re: Big wheels
Bigger tyres at the back will make it easier on the engine though!

Re: Big wheels
I was told by a friend and my m.o.t. mechanic it would be better for the engine and it would be like having a5 speed gearbox in my t3 .
I know the Speedo will be out with bigger wheels on it because it has happened on my mk1 caddy .

Re: Big wheels
Currently running 235 -70 -16
Speedo is approximately 15% slower according to the satnav (soon to be fixed )
Remember it will be a % not a fixed amount.
Regards Gary

Re: Big wheels
What happens if you' get a puncture .
Would it be ok to have 2 different size tyres on the rear .
Or would you carry 2 spare wheels

Re: Big wheels
205r16 is quite a bit bigger than the standard tyre size - unless you've fitted a much more powerful engine in your van I'm guessing you're going to be struggling on larger hills.

Yes you are right, I went up to Stanley the other night and It did struggle, but It used to struggle anyway, it drives so much better on the flat, but it does take time to get up to speed, it was a lot faster, it cruises at 55-58 where are before the engine was screaming at 50, pro's and con's I suppose. But what else could I do without changing the engine and or gearbox.

I am only carrying one spare wheel for the front and hoping I never get a puncture on the back,
if I do I will be driving home slowly

Re: Big wheels
You can have different sizes of tyres on the back, the differential will take care of the mismatch, as it does when you go round a corner. You'd get to a tyre place to fix it anyway- wouldn't drive a long way like that though.. Think lots of people carry a stock size as a spare..
