Whats the maximum tyre wheel combination that can be fitted with a standard suspension height. I currently have 16" 7j rims and am guessing van 80 profile tyres. I am trying to achieve a better ratio as have a big engine that revs high

Re: Bigger wheels and tyres
Ideally you want to match the factory diameter tyres so your speedo is accurate. VW fitted 185/82 14", so with a 16" height, 7" width wheel you can have a 205/60 16" tyre which is within a mm of factory dia. and I'll recommend 32psi & 34psi f/r tyre pressures.

Of course you could always fit 60 profile tyres on the front to keep the speedo honest and 80 profile on the back to improve the gearing.

Re: Bigger wheels and tyres
Forgot to mention this is just to the rear so will not affect the speed reported. I was thinking of 80 profiles. Would that extra 20 mm cause an issue do you think? The back sits a bit lower than the front so this would level things out a bitDoubleOSeven wrote:Ideally you want to match the factory diameter tyres so your speedo is accurate. Re: Bigger wheels and tyres
Sounds like I will get away with it. I could always get gas shocks if the back bottoms out. Should give me just over 10% better final ratioMocki wrote:I have 16x225x80 on mine , but mine is lifted 25mm all round, and it's still got room for bigger
