What tyre pressures

Post by focursed »

Hi all
1984 1.9 w/c joker
At present its running on 205x70x14 - can only find reading for rear tyre pressure being shown as 41psi
Does anyone know the correct pressures front and rear
Also due to renew the tyres, there doesn't seem to be a lot out there for this size is there a better/popular
fitment for 14" inch rim.

The factory label in my westie with 185R14C6PR tyres advises 39psi on the front and 48psi on the rears.

I've got 205s on my westie. When I discussed tyre pressures with the classic car garage I used, they advised me to stick with 39psi front and 48psi rears. 40psi on the rears does seem a bit low on a westie.

205/70r14 have a bigger footprint than 185r14 so need less pressure to support the same weight which is why VW recommend 35/40psi

Just to sow confusion, the South African handbook for 205/70r14 states 2.1 front and 2.3 rear for half load and 2.3, 2.5 full load.

I have 16' alloys on my fully ladden Holdsworth.
I run 47psi at the front and 51psi at the rear never had an issue.

As an average, 45 front and 50 rear seems to work on all tyres. You can use the chalk method to verify but you won't be far wrong at those pressures.
