Will these tyres fit 205 75 15?

Post by Laws1974 »

I have these Mercedes penta alloys I'm going to fit they are 15in 7J 23ET.
I won't to fit 205 75 15 and won't to know if they will fit with no trouble.
I have stranded Suspension fitted.
Any info will be a great help.

Yes they will fit but they are quite large

New tyres = 205*.75+(25.4*15) = 534.75mm total diameter

Thats 3.5cm larger than the originals I think which were 185R14 (185*.8+(14*25.4) = 503.6mm total diameter)

You'll lose some power apparently but they will definitely fit. Im running commercial van tyres (195 80 15) about the same size as your new ones and they fit fine.

williamkay - I'm not sure some of your maths hasn't gone astray a bit in there.

I estimate 185R14 as 654mm diameter and 205/75 R15 as 688mm - the larger tyres are an increase in diameter of 34mm on the smaller standard tyres i.e. just over 5%.

Physically they should fit in your wheel arches... they're not the largest size that I understand will fit a 2WD without rubbing, but that doesn't account for your wheels, and it would be difficult to predict without getting feedback form someone who's tried it, whether the offset of your alloys wouldn't cause them to rub a bit when the steering nears lock.

The other thing you need to be mindful of is the potential strain on your engine. An unmodified JX does not eat up hills, so if you increase your tyre diameter by 5% you'll find yourself using those low gears a lot more.

Just saying.

Thanks for the reply all useful.

My new alloys stick out more, by 7mm so I'm hoping they will fit without rubbing.
I am in the middle of rebuilding my JX engine it will be a1630cc when I've finished with a oil cooler and a intercooler fitted and some other things.
I know some people may say I'm wasting my time with the JX! But it's been a good engine up to the point it was using more oil then Diesel.
Any way Hopefully it will give some extra Bhp??

Sorry to hijack this old link but it is relevant. I have just bought a set of Ronal Penta alloys for my T25. The size is 7Jx15H2E23. I have no tyres on at the moment but when I put one on the back just to see how it looked, I noticed that the outer edge of the rim is in alignment with the outer edge of the wheel arch. I also have some lowering springs to lower the van by 2 inches but it looks like the wheels will stick out with tyres on and rub on the arches. Has anyone done this with these wheels and demonstrated that they will fit? I am reluctant to spend money on tyres if they aren't going to!

Any pictures would be very much appreciated!

I have just noticed that the inner lower suspension arm mount is further back than the front. I had assumed they would be in line. This means that my last comments weren't strictly true. As the suspension was at full travel because the van was jacked up, the wheel edge would not be vertical but rather out further at the top than the bottom. This is because the arm will rock the wheel as it goes up and down. I think there will be ample clearance now but it will be a close thing. I think I should for both rear lowering springs and then get two tyres fitted and try it out. There is, of course, the small issue of longer studs, different nuts and bolts etc! Not the quick job I was hoping for!!!
