Toying with the idea, whats the benefits?

Post by G Dub52 »

Hello!

I have been offered a set of Empi wheels with bigger tyres on the back then on the front.

Does this offer any improvement or is it just to look better do you think?

He told me it drives better but I dont know what to believe.

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are if at all, and if anybody else might have the same tyre setup? Any advice welcome :ok

I've thought of doing this as well, although if you got a front puncture and only had a rear wheel spare it would look off

The theory is faster top speed, less acceleration. It doesn't always work like that in practice though. With any alteration in final gearing (which a wheel size is part of), the engine power may need to increase to make use of that potential speed increase. It can actually work the other way if the increase is very big and the engine hasn't the power to make use of.

For modest changes in wheel size it's not massively noticeable though.

what he said /\

with a bigger rear tyre you could find yourself in-between gears all the time, one gear just not being enough and the next one being too much for the engine

its all about trial and error

after my tdi transplant i was running 255/55x18 rears to overcome the poor gearing of the 3H box, the tdi will pull anything so it was not a problem

Thanks for the comments guys. He is a mate so I can trial them for a weekend and just give them back if I'm not happy. Need to do some suspension work first.

Decided against the idea now. However have been offered these for £80. Didn't know whether to take these instead and paint them Matt black.

Opinions please? Also I think I'll have to drill out the wheel but holes a touch. Anybody experienced fitting these before?

I wouldn't bother if I were you. They look pants, even worse than empi's. If your going to put some alloys on your bus pick some that suit the t25. There so many examples on here of people putting pig ugly alloys on their buses just for the sake of having alloys. :ok

And far too many that are no way suitable in terms of strength.

Haha well I appreciate all of your honesty and to be honest now I've had time to think they are pretty ugly so needless to say I won't be having these either.

One day I'll find a set I actually like :D

The offset on EMPI's makes them unsuitable for a T25..... I couldn't tell you the exact details but I'm pretty sure this is correct.

There are a lot of Mercedes wheels that fit but I would urge you to spend sometime reading up on PCD/Offset/size/spacers/studs & wheel bolts/tyre & wheel load requirements.

IIRC.Empi's have an ET of 20 far to low for a T3. http://archive.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic ... b862d02aa2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
