Pulling to one side

Post by mikeytar3 »

Last week the van started to pull gently to the right. If left untouched the steering wheel will slowly turn and send the van into a gentle right turn. I checked tyre pressures, all ok. The van has electric power steering fitted, I was wondering if this could be anything to do with the gentle right turning effect. (no problems for the first year just suddenly last weekend)
Any ideas out there?

If tyre pressures good, check tyre wear, if it's visibly worn on one tyre or insides/outsides etc.

Put the rear tyres on the front and if it tracks straight you know it's definitely a tyre issue, then an alignment problem as above could be suspected causing the irregular wear.

Checked all the above and no issues. Am thinking it must be something to do with the electric power steering but as I don't know how it works am at a loss as to where to start looking for a problem.

Disconnect the electric power supply to the steering, should revert back to standard, see if it still pulls,if it does its not the power steering.

EPAS has a torque sensor on the column, so the ecu knows how much assistance to apply (the electronic equivalent of the torsion shaft inside a hydraulic rack valve housing)

I hear that they do fail.
