15" SA Rhein alloys

Post by Boblong »

So I want to upgrade my 14" steelies to these American-made SA spec 15" Rhein alloys

I'll be having a 1.9TDi (90) fitted soon too so thinking new brakes might be in order.

Other than the SA Big Brake kit (£846 from VWHeritage) are there any decent (hopefully cheaper) kits to upgrade to? Will I even need an upgrade!? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I really don't know much about brakes so need some advice.

Cheers, Bob

I've got black diamond discs/pads on my van, and they work well - coped with fully loaded camper van and 500kg of unbraked trailer round the black forest (lots of long mountain passes) - I think it was probably the first time I've got any serious heat into them! Only downside is that they can be a bit squealy around town when cold.

you don't really need a brake upgrade, but it does bring them up to date a bit. I have G60 twinpot calipers and vented discs.
The only real issue with the standard set up is they overheat pretty easy

Ok thanks guys,

Well my discs still have plenty of bite on 'em so I'll use them for a bit longer while I decide/save up.
I think a bit of an upgrade would be nice at some point though.

Thanks for the advice

By the way, if anybody else wants a set they're £675 for a set of 5 from MV Engineering in Telford

Nice price and they will carry the weight safely.
Otherwise we would be digging deep for a group buy of specially machined 7 x16 Blindo's at 180 quid each...
They would look right though.

PS Here's some on a Pinz:
