Rock and roll bed to fit around lpg tank

Post by 100leelee »

My van has an internal lpg tank fitted, pretty much the full width of a 3/4 bed.
Before I stripped the van for its major surgery, it had old school hinges for the bed, which were attached to the van by a few self tappers...
Now I am looking for a new bed, does anyone have a similar tank fitment and if so how’s the bed installed.?
Cheers
Lee

Rock and roll bed to fit around lpg tank

Post by Mocki »

Without knowing any more details than you have given it’s a bit of a guessing game, but the metal frame type of rock and roll bed found in Devon’s originally and much copied since have "elbows" sticking down under the seat part when not pulled out into a bed , so won’t fit with your tank
However the "grunt and shuffle " type of bed fitted originally to a leisure drive have steel runners that run horizontally and these will fit

This ( rather rough) sketch I did some years ago for someone shows what I mean

That's strange, obviously a photo bucket thing, but the picture is not at all blurred when I view it on here.
The tanks need to on the angle or they wouldn't fit under the bed, whether it's in spec or not I don't know.

who installed it ??
the tank should be at 30º , being at a different angle should have been picked up by the certifier and will drastically affect who much gas you get in the tank .

It was fitted by Steve at Gasure. Both tanks are at the same angle.

Picture of my tank in situ, pretty sure none of the pre fabricated beds will fit around it, the door side might be okay, but the tank is so wide the other bed fixing won’t work..so the leisuredrive system might be favourite... anyone have pictures and/or dimensions??

Are you still after photos of Leisure drive bed set up? Will photo if so.
Same set up was inside my first camper, a Bilbo conversion. Far superior comfort compared with a rock and roll bed found in my second camper.
Only issue is bed must be in horizontal position for access to engine hatch otherwisw support bars run above hatch preventing opening.

Hi
Yes I am.. I have a couple of rock and roll hinges as a last resort, but much prefer the leisure drive set up..

Thanks!
