I fitted a Westy pop top to my tintop a few years ago - wasn't too bad a job (albeit nerve wracking when i made the first cut!). however, mine has the h bar which did take me 2 attempts to get in the right position. When i was researching it I am pretty sure that I concluded the H bar was pretty important for torsional rigidity as well as simply holding it all up! i.e. stopping it twisting. i may be wrong of course but I'd be intrigued to see how it would work without. In the end i made up a shelf which clips onto the H bar so it serves an extra purpose as well!

I think the locking strut is better as strong winds can bounce the top, but usually normal struts are used on poptops.
