Decent make of starter motor with a solenoid that works
Can anyone recommend a decent make of starter motor with a reliable solenoid for a 1987 1.9 Petrol Autosleeper. Unbelievably this is the second starter motor I've bought (it's hardly been used) but it's as bad as the one I replaced. I'm getting fed up with constantly having to take the bed out to get at my homemade switch in the engine compartment that bridges the terminals, just to start the engine.

only downside is that it sounds like a bloody subaru when starting

If you have a standard figment Bosch, take it to your local specialist and have it rebuilt, as I had the same problem and it only cost me £85 versus £280 for a new Bosch one.
I’d also check all your cabling from the battery to the starter, ignition switch to starter and alternator to starter, as these become brittle and you end up with duff connections and lower voltage flows which affect starting too.

That may be telling you something it is not actually the starter at fault.t3convert wrote:get at my homemade switch in the engine compartment that bridges the terminals, just to start the engine.

Yeah, that has to be the solenoid trigger wire at fault doesn't it? Bypassing it with your switch means that the starter is working correctly I'd think...
