Roof rack cover

Post by T25Convert »

I have a tin top with roof rack, which I use for tables, chairs and tent, plus anything that is wet/muddy/smelly.

I bought a giant bag to go with it, but its rubbish - its difficult to use and apparently only waterproof in one direction - i.e. water gets in, but then never leaves.

Had a look at tarpaulins, but they all seem to be pretty rubbish, can't seem to find anything better than that kind of woven thing that builder merchants love, but leaks.

What do you cover your roof racks with?

Might be worth to get roof bars and a top box? I’ve had one for years and it doesn’t leak and keeps everything dry.

I'm finally admitting defeat and going with the top box! I'll see if it works better for me.....

I have some plastic type fabric, don't know what its called but its like a light version of lorry curtain side material. It's non permiable and stops everything if wrapped correctly. I use it to wrap our tent on the roof rack and then use it as a ground sheet (I know it can be bad for grass but we tent to tour and only ever pitch for 2 nights at the most).
I bought it from our local market, he still sells it in limited colours, can't remember how much it was but its on a roll and bought by the yard

Top box all the way for me. keeps wet gear out of the van and is easy to load and unload by standing in the sliding doorway.
