advantage of reclassifying minibus to camper ??

Post by Cobra88 »

as per title

guessing VED or whatever they call it this week stays the same as it's still over 1600 cc.

My insurance company says the same premium.

apart from being allowed to do 70mph on a dual carriageway instead of 60 is there any point changing with DVLA ???

Regards
Rick

Had my bus 11 years, 1984 1.9 DG Caravelle C, on log book as a microbus. I did look at changing to camper but i found most companies wanted a gas safety certificate if you have a fixed cooker. I dont have one as i use a portable cooker so i can set up kitchen in my awning when required. Just renewed my insurance with Adrian Flux. I took advantage of club discount and added an agreed value. Still under £200.

My understanding is that a Caravelle is a passenger vehicle as opposed to a van and it will have a chassis number starting with wv2 zzz( I think a van starts with wv1zzz). My understanding is that a t25 starting with wv2zzz would already be permitted to travel at 70 on dual carriageways.
Can anyone confirm?

Other speed restrictions apply also. pretty much any limit above 40, you are restricted by 10mph. ie50 zone max speed is 40. etc. ANPR cameras will get you.
My only speeding ticket ever 48mph in a 50  should have known better.

Caravelle is same as passenger car for speed limits , so no advantage there for swapping to rigid body motor caravan .
No advantage for VED
Disadvantage where motor Caravans are restricted parking , like some resort car parks and on road parking .

My caravelle has a high top and a Camper interior but it’s Caravelle on the log book .

Sorry, I didn't register the change was from minibus. I was referring to van restrictions.

You could be right. The caravan bit works fine so it must be the other bit causing all the problems

Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

My “understanding” was based on a discussion with the owner of a T5 imported from France.

Was what I said ,correct for a T5 ?
