Hi all I've just bought a VW T25 f reg, and the electric hook up plug on the outside of the vehicle is a female connection, is this right ??? I was sure it should be a male

It's usually a male. It has been on both the vans I have owned. I don't think it matters TBH, as long as your cable has a male plug.

Imagine you plug in to the mains before you put the cable into your van, - live metal sticking out. Change it before the accident happens.
