Hi all,
First post on here, albeit I’ve been a keen watcher of the forum over the past 12 months or so, and particularly since last May when I bought my first T25 after years of owning beetles. So far, I can’t say enough about the T3 scene. Everyone I’ve spoken to or dealt with has been fantastic and it would appear to me that the VW ‘spirit’ is much alive in the T3 scene.
So, without further ado, here she is:
A 1987 Caravelle, bought very uncharacteristically of me on a bit of a whim at Stanford Hall from a T25 enthusiast. If anyone has any additional information about the van, or there are any previous owners on here, do get in touch. So far, I’ve had a great time with it and started to put some good miles on it as confidence builds including a trip down to Cornwall. Other than a split coolant hose and a temperature sensor retaining clip failing and subsequent popping out of the sensor along with plenty of coolant, it’s been smooth sailing. Plans are for a refurb of the gear lever linkage, new wheels, slight lowering and various minor improvements such as new chrome window trim over the winter.
And, a camping interior, hence the post here.
Having done a reasonable amount of research, I’ve concluded that I want something which I understand to not have been produced. Essentially, I’m looking to install a Westfalia Joker style interior in a RHD van. I say install, but as I understand it, create is the more suitable word! Essentially, as the interior won’t be factory correct, I’m not too anal about its being perfect, but am looking for a white with grey edging Joker “style” interior similar to that shown below (photo courtesy of westfaliat3.info) and associated upholstery.
Essentially, I’m looking for guidance and advice on how I could go about sourcing such an interior. Has recreating a Westy interior in RHD been done before to anyone’s knowledge? I’m based in the midlands and know of a few interior places locally, but wanted to get thoughts on the forum prior to approach any interior specialists.
Looking around, I’m envisaging that I’ll have to have the interior made as a bit of a one off. However, having looked CampervanCulture, it would appear that the Westy hinges, door latches, swing out table etc. are all available which would hopefully make life much easier albeit I have not been able to find any correct fridges, hobs etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Ben

Have a read of this...

What you could do with is a RHD Westfalia Mosaik kit. They do exist, so good luck searching!

Re: RHD Westy Joker Interior
ajsimmo - apologies, should have mentioned in my post that I had come across that page on the westfaliat3 website. Sourcing one of those would be perfect, but I'm assuming that they're rare as rocking horse doo doo???
Thanks for the link volks_womble. I'm beginning to think that sourcing a LHD interior and then making a mirror image of the wardrobe unit will be the most feasible option. This would avoid having to source a fridge and hob unit on its own. Glad to see that someone has done it before!
Now, anyone got a RHD Mosaik interior, or a LHD joker interior collecting dust that they want to get rid of?
