Removed element. Tested again through pierced holes...stay with me... reading 01.7.
Tested again at end of wire which was in connector bock and meter went all over the place.
Partly clean one side of exposed wire....its got some kind of terminal cap...with a nail file and clean side gets good reading. Uncleaned side meter goes all over the shop. Im going to test directly on 12volts.
How quickly will it warm up....l know it will burn..

If the element works fine, then I think you need to be looking at the van wiring. It might allow 12v to pass, but little current

In van getting good reading at 12volts

Sound like crap connection on the wire into the connector block.

Just needs cleaning up, alternatively chop a couple of centimetres off and bare fresh metal

There is heat! But a dodgy fuse connector didnt help. Ive discarded that for now and will buy a more robust one later. I believe a 15 amp fuse is used?

Thanks for the advise my friends.
