Westfalia lpg tank help

Post by Stirls »

Hi all, I've only had the van a week so still getting to know it, problem I have is I haven't got the key to open the fridge/cooker LPG tank cover the previous owner didn't have it and it looks like it hasn't been open for some time.
Any Ideas where of how I could get a key or is there a way of forcing it open I could make some other arrangement to lock it, any ideas guys.

Only thing I can think of is to try punching the pins out of the hinges at the base of the cover and see whether you can then lift the opening section off. Failing that you could carefully cut / slit along the bottom hinges to separate the two halves and open it that way. Replacement covers are available new from Günzl amongst others, or they pop up secondhand from time to time. Unfortunately the bolts that hold the cover base onto the tank are underneath the cover.

Hi Stirls, when you gain access or replace the cover make sure you fit a plastic escutcheon. The underslung gas cylinder couldn't be in a worse place for getting plastered in muck and grunge. A decent escutcheon will make future life a whole lot simpler.

It is a bit of a state under there I plan to drop it and give it a going over, is there a way of getting the tank tested looks a bit rusty.
A cover sound a good idea.
