Vehicle height

Post by HW182 »

Hi all,

Am busy planning a weekend away at work (away from my high top T25) and got to thinking about the vehicle height (and restrictions on parking where there is a height barrier).

Can any of you with high tops who know it let me know the rough height of your van? I'll measure mine when i get home but didnt want to stop my planning.

Thanks.

You haven't said what conversion you've got, but the VW manual gives the height of a Westy hightop as 2650 for 2WD, and 2680 for 14" Syncro. Generally we assume a height of 2800 for ours to allow for margin of error.

to be honest, i'm not entirely sure what conversion it is - never seen one similar to it.

Thanks for those who've replied so far - i reckon 2.8 is a safe bet to not try anything lower.

Been meaning to measure ours for a while so seemed an appropriate time.

Leisuredrive Hightop is approx 267cm to top of roof vent.

Measured the height tonight and reckon c. 270cm. Couldn’t get all the way to measure exactly where the vent was so will be going with 280 as the height.

Ours is 2600 roughly. We manage to book on ferries with a height restriction of 2700mm (Isle of Wight).

I was shocked this week when I went to cross the toll bridge at Itchen, Southampton. Because the height was above 2390mm they were going to class me as a HGV and charge £25.00. Luckily a kind attendant 'let me through' and told me not to come that way again. (Below 2390mm cost £1.20!). Heightist, I tell thee!

Interesting, I just had a look and it's height at the front axle, not max height. Better get that tape measure out again for high tops going that way

Even cheaper if the rule was based on height over the rear axle :D
