Westy Fridge Gas Pipe Olive and Nut Replacement?

Post by si macc »

I've (finally) managed to get the gas jet off the fridge but in doing so broke the olive which I'm guessing I should replace anyway. I've looked around on various websites but can't find anything for a ~4mm pipe. Anyone know where to get an olive and nut? This is the closest I've found, looks the same but for 8mm pipe:

Any help greatly appreciated!

What else would you expect it to be made of ?

Steel. The original one is definitely not copper

The gas fittings I have seen have all been copper, maybe a historical difference between German / UK norms.

I guess maybe stronger for use in a mobile environment? I did see a comment on a product on eBay suggesting this. I too have always seen gas pipe fittings as copper but wondering in a camper if there was a reason for this. Struggling to find steel anyway so guess I have no choice!

Aren't steel olives just factory fitted ones? They must take considerably more force to seal than normal copper ones. I seem to remember Calor's fitting instructions to not use brass olives also, unfortunately their web pages with detailed diy info has disappeared - 'elf and safety strikes again no doubt.

Indeed, the only reference to olives on their site is in a number of cooking accessories and food recipes.

How did we survive to get to the age we are :?:

also https://www.bes.co.uk/4-mm-brass-olive-compression-uk meets lots of safety standards

have found a place on ebay selling olives so fingers crossed they're ok. BES/RS/etc wanted between £3-5 delivery for a handful of olives! :run
