Correct Gas Pipe for Propex Supply. 1989 Leisuredrive

Post by maxstu »

8mm copper is the obvious choice. Yet routing through cupboards and a hidden 90% bend will be so awkward using copper.

My new van had a Propex fitted prior to my ownership. It has exhaust holes in floor under bed and associated Propex wiring and 5amp fuse included near leisure battery. Likely Leisuredrive added pipework before fitting camper internals.

So lm after an alternative flexible pipe or braided pipe, as used on household gas cookers. Is it illegal or just plain stupid to use polypipe or similar, with compression terminals either end, instead of copper ? This stuff is widely used on auto LPG systems and my previous van too.... and outside collecting road crude daily too!

Your views please and alternatives I should consider?

Regards
Stuart

Faro 8mm Poly pipe is the way to go and not illegal. There are also plenty of fittings & adaptors that'll fit & convert from 8mm copper if req'd.

Hi Captain Byrne,

Thanks very much. Ever used this company? I guess l should use an internal spring inside poly pipe when fitting through 90% to prevent kink in pipe? Or is that overkill?

I've never used them nor their products but the 8mm poly pipe looks good & I wished I'd have used it when I fitted my propex rather than copper.. I would drop them an email & ask them any questions. As for using a spring, I would hazard a guess it may not work in the same way as a spring does for copper. Having said that, I've never used a spring for 8mm copper anyway, as you can get a pretty tight bend if you're reasonably careful.

8mm poly with correct compression connectors ordered. One straight and one 90% angle. This will make refitting propex heater so much easier :ok
