Full width Beds

Post by Titus A Duxass »

Hi,
Does anyone have a nearly full width bed in their van?

We're upgrading from a 120cm bed but I'd like to build a small pocket/cupboard on either side of the bed.

I was thinking something around about 120mm wide running 2/3rds the length of the bed (starting from the rear).

Thoughts.....

Can't even get my fingers into the gap at either end of mine - it's pretty tight to the van sides. Have you got a bed from a Multi-van, or is it some other after-market make?

Hello,

I am blessed with a full width R'n'R bed... 8)

Without going into too much detail, the sofa rear seat pulls forward and lays back into the original 'well', so that the big and little foam cushions
stay in place all the time over the engine hatch/rear bay.I would guess at 80 mm clearance either side for the sofa.

I have an overhead rear shelf, above the rear window, designed to hold clock, glasses and books. It has a blocking device,(wooden bar) to locate 2 coathangers. I use the Lidl clothes protector bags for smart and tidy. With built in led strip light (also illuminates engine bay when necessary) and twin marine 12v cigar lighter outlets... for fan.. led reading light.. or computer on adapter (no inverter).

I made elastic side pockets from motorcycle luggage nets held on with industrial cable sticky fixers.

All made out of offcuts..lasted 5 years so far..

If you pm me your e mail, I can do some pics and send as an attachment.

Cordialement

Tin top had a full width bed, it was great but I'm now sold on having the extra strorage space and a smaller bed.

Thanks for the helpful replies people.
I am planning on making the bed out steel rectangular 15 x 20 tubing.
Having read your comments I'll just stick with a full 140cm width bed.

The 120cm is okay for a few days but for longer trips we'd prefer a bit more space.

We have plenty of storage up in the roof.

John - I like the sound of your little shelf. I think I'll make something similar.

If you fitted a Multivan rnr bed which is about 7/8 width and you made your own side panels instead of fitting the genuine plastic side panels then you could make lots a small width storage on both sides.

I had a 3/4 bed in my last van, but since sleeping in a full width bed (same as a king size) in my Multivan, I'd never go back to anything smaller.
