Cleaning pop top roof / canvas with RugDoctor

Post by McNab »

Hi chaps

Has anyone tried the above. I had a mould problem caused by the pop top not being tucked away, getting wet and then (stupidly) tucked back in. This made the fabric and the roof lining get mould spores.
I've 'cleaned' all the mould to stop it from growing any more, and it's fine other than the stains haven't gone. I've tried all the suggestions, diluted bleach, miltons fluid, vanish etc to no real effect.

I thought that for the sake of £20, I could hire a rug doctor and give that a bash, but I'm not sure how it will effect the flock roof lining.

Any one got any thoughts or experience of doing this?

Hi,

I have no experience of it, but think the rug doctor could be a little bit too deep penetrating if you know what I mean, wouldn't want what holds it on to get ruined and end up with a sag!

I have had some success with the magic cleaning sponge thingys from Aldi in the past ( cant remember their name) they are white rectangular sponges, in packs of four or five.

Just cover your eyes when you do it as you are invariably looking up at the roof when you do it and little bits tend to drop off and they make your eyes sting like murder (yes I did do it).

Other than that, I have used the toothbrush and diluted bleach treatment to good effect in the past (just cover everything up in case).

Hope that helps. :ok

I've cleaned a few over the years!

Best thing that I've found, is a specific "mold cleaner"

The spray style, found in most supermarkets.

It tends to dry quickly, and kills/removes the bacteria that builds up when roofs are folded over winter, or put down when they are damp.

I just spray, then work it in with a stiff brush, and wipe of with a cloth, continually cleaning the cloth each time in warm water, and wringing out before using again.

I was very surprised with the results the first time that I used it.

:ok

Recently I used Mudbuster on my plastic Holdsworth roof. It has black streak marks remover in it. Not sure if it's suitable for canvas though?

Thanks chaps, I've ordered some mudbuster (was only £10 so worth a go..) and failing that I will give the mold cleaner a go again.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I've used Meguiars Canvas Cleaner which did a pretty good job.
Just looking for it & it appears they don't do it anymore but I think this'll do the same job. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Meguiars-Conve ... et+Cleaner" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
