devon canvas roof replacement

Post by hilift »

WE have jut had our devon camper resprayed the crowning glory on a year long body resto .

im in the process of re fitting it out with loads of new parts ( money pit ) , the thing is the brown /cream canvas top now looks very scruffy .

I have sourced a place in the north east called "proud to pop " who make new canvas bellows for any poptop you care to mention .

loads of colour ways etc and quote £355 for a side hinge devon moonraker .

has anybody done this ie replaced he canvas . ?????? what sort of a job is it . it looks a right pain to do .

proud to pop do a fitting service for about £300 and would take 2 days to complete .

the premises are in Gateshead which is about 250 miles from home . which realy is a bit impractical .

I have a proud to pop bellows on my Devon roof, the fit is terrible, it's too big on all sides so I had about 100mm to loose, the old bellows had loops fitted to hold the aluminium bars, the proud to pop offering has 2 webs that are separate from the bellows, it makes lowering the roof a pain, after 2 1/2 years of being on the van it looks older and more worn than the 30+ year old one it replaced.
As for changing the bellows it's a simple but time consuming job, you just need to work methodically.

hmm , just read all the info , and we have decided to give the existing "canvas " a good clean up and see what it looks like .
got some "betterware " mould and mildew cleaner ,from clearing out parents garage . we,ll give that a go and hopefully it will save all the aggro .
thanks for replys .
