Westphalia gas system

Post by Redvark »

I've recently come into the ownership of a 1989 Westphalia pop top.

The people I bought it off indicated that they had used the gas system until the gas ran out and then because of the difficulty of filling it they hadn't used it for some time

I understand that the underslung gas tank can be filled from LPG pumps at garages by using an adapter (which I've bought).

However being a cautious type I'd like to get someone to look at the system before I fill it to check it's ok. I took it to a place in Livingston but all I got was "nice van......no we aren't certified to check the system"

I did ask on the T23(T3) Facebook group and the response was basically "fill it and use it it'll be right" - still a bit nervous about this to be honest so was wondering if anyone knows anywhere I can get the system checked out

I'm Scotland based but obviously will travel if necessary

Thanks in advance

Westphalia gas system

The best people to contact are probably either Steve at Gasure or Andy at Campershack.

E D I T: I'm with other advice that you've received that you should try filling it and using it, unless you've got a specific reason for concern.

Whilst I appreciate your apprehension about filling the tank without prior knowledge of its worthiness, I think you're being a tad over cautious. What sort of condition is it in? If there are major signs of rust or general knackeredness then yes get it checked, but if it looks ok then I'd just fill it.

First time I filled mine (had the same apprehension you have), I only partially filled it - I think I put around £5 in it (this was a few weeks back). That way I didn't have to think about things like the auto-cut off at 80% working properly etc.

Get stuck in, give it a go :ok

After a twenty day road trip the guage was pretty much zero. Kept my hand on the dispense button until it wouldn't squeeze anymore in. £5 on the dot.

I wished I kept the receipt as I'm not sure if California Dreaming is implying I'm embellishing the truth.

About nine years ago I filled up at a council depot in the Buxton area, that cost me eleven quid.

California Dreaming, you're welcome to PM me.!

Regards, Max.

I think I'm rather jealous of how cheap other peoples LPG is..it's 69.9 at our local.
