T25 84 Side elevating roof Strut replacement

Post by 69gp225 »

Hello,

Would like to replace the 4 roof struts on my 84 side elevating Devon roof.
What's is the procedure to achieve this?

Would I be right in saying elevate the roof and fit one at a time?

Can anyone help?

Thanks Lee

when i replaced ours i elevated the roof and put a wooden prop inside to be safe .removed two struts at the same end as one is behind the other. compress the strut with a luggage strap and replce the inner one first. keep the swear jar handy as you will prob need it.

Use stout ratchet straps to compress... Just done ours, hated doing it but best it's ever been! Sgs engineering will make them to any dimension and strength, which is what I had to do as have a bit of an unusual roof.Image

Did you manage to achieve this in the end. Have replaced horizontals after fixing ripped hinge from roof, but verticals seem way too powerful and pins are no longer straight due to plastic roof bowing from 30 years of use, so having a nightmare getting them on even with ratchets.

After getting fixed once, couldn't close roof and handle came off inside so starting again for 3rd time 😔

Wondering whether to bite the bullet and install the originals and put the new 500nm on ebay or go for something less powerful, 300-400nm?

As someone already said, swear jar is brimming

Anyone else gone for less powerful and your experiences please

Thanks
