Yellow flame out of gas ring

Post by IndigoSteve »

I have a yellow flame coming out of my rear burner?

The front burner is fine and nice and blue.

The hob is the original in a westy joker - any ideas of where I should be checking ?

insufficient air is usual cause. Check burner ring/tube thing engaging properly with nozzle and air intake section not obstructed. Also check jet in nozzle clear and nothing to deflect jet of gas. Maybe low pressure so check bottle level and try with spare regulator if you have one. Someone might have the same model and be able to offer more specific advice.

In case you didn't know and yours are stuck you can remove the top by twisting and pulling.

Should be able to clean enough to get a clean flame then but make sure you dry first as any water stuck in the gaps will make problem worse. Soon dries though once the gas on

Check there's nothing fallen inside where the jet is or the jet is not blocked

If nothing has fallen down the top of the burner tube then most likely fluff or some foreign body blocking the air intake where the injector goes into the burner tube.
Just a little E D I T. If the injector is ok & there's nothing in the burner tube (at either end), then it may well be a partial blockage somewhere along the line. The grease on the tap barrel can sometimes work lose and create a restriction in the aperture on the barrel, thus reducing the pressure. This could give you the symptoms you have and you might be able to strip down the tap & clean it. When reassembling, get the correct grease from a heating engineers suppliers & don't put too much on the barrel. To be honest I doubt that's the problem anyway but it might be!

Think this was fluff in the air tube. Have it a good clean out and it's much better. Thx for the advice
