midges!!!!

Post by Dave Brackenridge »

Guys any advice on how to keep midges out?? I have a family of 6 so will need to use the Camper and the awning for sleeping. Id like to leave the door open on the bus so we can hear the kids but don't want to be eaten alive!! Whats the best solution?

Netting is the only way for me but don't rely on mosquito netting get proper midge netting it is a lot finer. I have tried all the preparations but still get bitten but my daughter is hardly bothered by them.

A nice smoky BBQ or open fire also keeps them at bay.

I'd be tempted to buy a baby alarm so you can hear the kids and keep the door shut.
I'm assuming the kids will be in an inner tent in the awning.
Failing that, some sort of midgie mesh over the doorway might work if you can get it to seal round the edge.

The problem with the midges is that they are attracted by the CO2 that is exhaled so that even if they don't bite your head is still enveloped in the cloud of them. ( This was proved by scientists who set up a CO2 generator and observed their behaviour)

How do they know you taste of garlic unless they bite you first.

You can smell people who are regular garlic eaters. A guy at work many years ago used to eat it every day and he absolutely reeked of it all the time. Blooming veggie hippy!

I was trying to be funny. As a veggie myself I thought it odd that someone who ate garlic was assumed (or not) to be a veggie. I was just turning it around.
