Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Well made some progress this afternoon. After replacing the glass fuse and removing the glow/spark plug the blower motor kicks in as it should and after about 30 secs the fuel pump starts ticking.
So the Ecu looks to be OK
I was checking the voltage on the glow plug supply leads and read 12v so decided to wire up the glow plug direct and
I then plugged it back into the loom and the blower came on, The glow plug lit & 30 seconds later the pump started
One thing that is odd is that the wiring appears to have been altered at some time & an additional temperature switch installed on the duct outlet, You can see from this picture that one of the white cables has been cut from the connector & wired via an additional temp sensor to the glow plug
This temperature switch does not feature in the wiring diagram for my model of B2L

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Heating coil switch? That is white cable together with the temperature switch. Then you also have the overheat switch which should be brown wire.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Well the latest is that I have had it firing up and working
I have blown one of the new T1.25 amp fuses tho and it seems to prefer the 800mA fuse with a coil inside, I am wondering if I need a new glow plug even tho it seems to work.
I am also going to swap the 3 temperature switches.
The wiring diagram I have does not go into detail on how the ECU works though.
Now on a quest for ethanol resistant pipe which i'm finding hard to come by.

Any polyamide/nylon line - 1.5 - 2mm id will be ethanol proof. Ebay or Brickwerks. Gates for the rubber.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Gates make high quality fuel hose. Only problem with them is they only do 3.2mm and 4mm and you really need 3.5mm for 4mm nylon pipe. I use 3.5mm marine hose to Lloyds marine spec. J1527 which is rated for 10% ethanol. ( I buy 20m at a time)
What size fuel line are you using? If 4mm Eberspächer joiners are available on ebay if you only want a few.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
I'm using the original plastic pipe ID 1.5mm to go from pump to heater but need only about 200mm rubber with 3.5mm id to make the connections either end. (the original fabric coated stuff really perished)
The Original plastic pipe seems ok but if you recommend changing it then I will.
Then about 1m of suitable rubber ID 5mm from the T piece to the pump inlet. I was also going to fit a pre filter after the T piece
I have seen on ebay short lengths for joining but no mention of ethanol resistance

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
It should be 1.5mm line from the tee to the pump also, 5mm is far too big. On Eberspächer pumps there is already a filter in the inlet so strictly speaking another one is superfluous. Yours most probably could do with changing if it has never been done before. They are only around 10p each.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
I was just going by what's in the installation instructions for passenger cars, which says 5mm,
The diagrams do show an additional optional pre filter.
I did take out and clean the pump filter and it looked to be rust coloured. I also had to get nylon brush on the dremmel to the inside of the filter housing.
The filter has cleaned up pretty well but for that price i'd be mad not to swap it out for new.
Thanks for the tips OBG, Do appreciate it

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
That is an interesting one - 5mm or not: stand pipe or side exit 2mm/1.5mm , bottom exit 5mm. We don't have a bottom exit hence the use of the smaller ID.

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Ok so the latest on this heater is that I have replaced the 3 micro switches, painted the case, re-assembled and got it working on the bench a couple of times
But....
It would appear I have a faulty spark generator
I have motor blowing
Pump pumping
10.8 volts at the glow plug & can feel warmth
But no ignition
The pump continues for about 3 mins & shuts down, Exhaust smells of petrol
I have stuck a bolt in the end of the plug lead and held against the end of the plug & nothing.
Bugger!

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
I did post a link to new spark generators a while back - they were around 170 of those euro things.

Not really cost effective!

Re: Eberspacher BL2 Troubleshooting guide
Now you can see why it makes more sense to use one of my heaters in the case instead of trying to refurbish an ancient one!
