Hi all,

Need to replace my roof canvass on my 1980's westie as it has seen better days, can any one recommended a high quality replacement?

Many thanks

I have a couple of these but only for the later roof that holds the canvas with the silver aluminium rails, http://campervanculture.com/shop/gowest ... t3vanagon/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I do have a pallet leaving Gowesty this week if you want an early Gowesty canvas ordering.

Let me know quickly though.

My poptop roof is not a Westfalia, it has no H-Bar at the front, just fastening belts to mount points at the front and then the gas struts do all the work.

Are these roofs standard anyway, would the Westfalia canvas fit all?

or what is a pre-85 roof like, did that have a H-bar too, or maybe my roof is more like a pre-85, even though my bus is 89

ahh just reading Jeds post, so its the way it fastens along the roof, so I need to check that

cheers, Rich

If your roof is not a westie one it is unlikely that a westie canvas will fit. Yes the early ones had the h bar too. What type of roof do you have?

Says Trio on it, and has the storage space at the front, no roof window. Canvas has 3 windows, 1 big net window(which is ripped), 1 small net window and then 1 transparent plastic window

The metal band is attached with rivets, so I would need to remove all of them and replace with screws after, is this similar to what other people have?

I think you might have to get something made up especially for that.

How does your canvas attach itself to the bus?

I assume the metal strip is jamming the material down, but I would also assume that the dimensions are the same as most pop-tops?

Much the same as that. Beading on the edge canvas jams under and on the inside of the metal rail. The overall rise of your poptop looks a lot lower than a Westy though.

Best bet is to remove yours and use it as a pattern to get a new one made up.

yeah. but surely ALL pop tops of this style are of the same dimensions, as they are fit something that is standard i.e. our bus frames/roofs.

My assumption is that any roof canvas of the same style, will fit the dimensions, but maybe due to mine not opening as far, it might sag down, then I could get that either tailored or fit new hinges/gas struts that make it open higher

Time to get your tape measure out :ok Looking at your pix there's going to be quite a bit of difference.

Wrong. Even the early and late westies have different canvas sizes. However your roof does not go up as high as a westie so any size might do the job.

No chance of a westy canvas fitting that without modifying it. But do you really want to spend £350ish on a quality canvas then pay someone to modify and fit it. Go to a specialist and get one made, much more cost effective.
