Camping badged T25?
I wonder if someone could enlighten me...
T25s came from the factory in various guises; panel van, caravelle, combi, etc..
AFAIK the only camper conversion of the T25 offered by VW were the Westfalia conversions.
The various conversion companies would buy a base van and convert it; the base van being one of the standard factory offered variants.
Our van seems to be a fairly basic Combi as a base, but also has a 'Camping' badge on, which looks very much like an original VW fit item. I have seen them on others too.
So, is that a VW thing? In which case was it something only offered to aftermarket converters? Or was the badge added by Autohomes?
Just curious,
cheers
Mark

We have a Devon with the Camping badges on the back but I assumed it was because Devon were a VW recognised converter

I have a CampingD badge.
Really don't know anything about the history of the van, but it is a diesel so that could explain the D!

My van has a Devon Conversion badge on the tailgate and it also has one just above the front bumper.

Re: Camping badged T25?
Just reading about the devon badges my bus has both the devon badge that is a pressed ally badge and the camping badge the vw one . I was told by the guy who built mine that she lwas one of six carravelles that vw had sent to devon in exeter . These vans were meant to replace westfalia in europe but devon did not turn them over quick enough and within budget . All the cover panels on the roof and upper supports are hand formed from steel . The cupboards are 6mm ply covered in fiberglass. The units were made and fitted in tuckenhay and totnes then sent to exeter for finishing. I have only seen one other van with the pressed ally badge . I was also told the camping badge was on vw approved conversions . This would seem to be true as i have only seen the camping badge on westfalias and devons . If anyone has any info on this i would love to hear . Sorry highroller i did not mean to highjack your question as this is what i have been told and also beleive to be true but if anybody knows different i would also like to know . . hope this helps mark .Dougal.

I think that they were standard badges on westie jokers.

Re: Camping badged T25?
I am getting the impression that the camping badged vans were those supplied to aftermarket conversion companies - so far Devon, Westfalia and Autohomes, possibly only early ones too.
I wonder if the camping badge has any relation to the base spec of the original van - presumably a 'Camping' spec wasn't something that could be ordered specifically, it would still have come out of the factory as a caravelle or a combi or whatever?

Re: Camping badged T25?
'Camping' badge affixed above a 'Devon Conversions' badge on mine. Definitely original van is registered as a Caravelle on the V5.
Saw 2 autohomes campers while looking to buy - same age, '85-'86, no 'Camping' badge on them. It seems quite a random addition.
