Does anyone have one ?

Found these online

http://www.vw-beds.com/products/cab_bunk.html

or

http://nlavw.com/gb/interior/106-adjust ... indow.html

this one looks wider, but not sure about drilling into the pillars wouldn't it weaken them ?

or this

http://www.bluebird-type2.co.uk/T25interior.htm

looks the same as no.2 ?

Or has anyone made one ?

how comfy are they ?

cheers

I fitted an nlavw bunk a week ago, i was a bit dubious as to how comfy it would be, but the two wee yins (6 & 4) were fighting over it to sleep in it, both found it very comfy and the extra width over the other variety is definitely the way to go.
I would not expect the holes to cause any weakening.....though i don't plan on rolling it.

I'm interested to read what people say about these too as having three children this is a serious option. I too am curious about the seats not being in the way.

I bought a cab bunk at last years Vanfest. Once fitted, I found I had to remove the drivers side headrest when in use, as can't tilt that seat back due to sink unit behind it. Don't have young kids, just use it for extra storage space when camping. I have since kept the U shaped clip separate, so taking headrest out is easier..

I made one (there's a thread somewhere but can't find it using my phone) and used it for years until my child grew way taller than the width of the van - because I made it I could make allowances for headrests etc

I remember seeing that in Wales and being very impressed with it. What did you do with it once it was too small ?

I've got the vw-beds one.

After placing the order, there was a bit of a lack of communication, but true to word, the bed turned up after 2 weeks.

The bed itself is made of four metal sections, 2 long sides the width of the van, and a section top and bottom that the sides screw onto, and a canvas cover. It's not necessarily the easiest thing to put together, I found the first 3 connections fine, then the last one a bit tricky - best bet is to leave the first 3 connections a bit loose, then the play will help with the last one.

Strength wise it seems excellent - though we've only had our 6 month old on it so far, in a pop up cot tied to the bed and she slept better than at home! :) No drilling required, and stayed in place once the doors shut (end sections come with some pipe insulation for that purpose) . Getting in place a bit tricky, but probably as I was using it in combination with external silver screens, so when I opened the door to put the screen on, the bed would drop (no baby on at this point!), so just a bit of coordination to get everything in place. Didn't need to remove headrests, or move the seats etc, would just fit straight in.

We've got a full-width bed in the back, so rather than take the hammock apart, I simply put it under the bottom cushions of the rear seat when we didn't need it, where it fitted rather well and was out of the way. Otherwise you'd have to find somewhere to keep it, remember, even folded it'll be as long as the front window ledges are wide, so it will only go in the boot at an angle for example.

HTH!

Fitted the hammock today, the screws that came with the fixing kit were only fit for the bin, so I riveted the brackets in.

Sternal, it's interesting to hear your comments on the screws. We were careful to copy the original Westfalia style screws. Were yours badly machined or did you just not like the type supplied?

We like to hear feedback on our range because without hearing from you guys we don't know how to improve our products. Cheers in advance for any constructive comments :-)
