So I bought this off eBay local as it had never seen a welder and spent its down time always parked in a barn... Hence every panel has been attacked by hay bales at some time or other Image
Image

Came with a home brew nasty caravan chic interior! Guy I bought it from had a scary 80's porno moustache so it had to be ripped out ASAP! Image
Image

I had one night in it with the lads from our local club and woke in the morning with a viral throat infection Image I blame the 80's moustache so it was stripped bare
Image
Usual insulation that I use in all of my previous builds
ImageThen mega stretch on......Image
Flooring down and insulated
Image
Units started
Image
Image
Now as for a daft attempt at a "theme".... I wanted a tiki bar style which I am building on over the winter with a swing out/ removable bar!!

And a bit of aged writing for Dubenhams my pals online vintage store lol

A bit more LED fitting today and a celebratory brew and cupcake

Here's mine, the 3rd one owned over the years and I'll post pics of the old ones.

1981 2.0 air-cooled, Autohomes I think but I believe it originally had a pop-top, looking at the original documentation that came with it. I have replaced a lot of the interior, as I had to pull it out to have the drivers side welded (thanks Keri) where fridge condensation had rusted it out, body actually very ok for the age but has fibreglass in places, I think 'professionally' applied looking at various receipts. More of the interior needs replacing where the chipboard has blown and dried out and now crumbles like McVities Digestives when you touch it. I'm no carpenter though. Various bits and bobs replaced and gathering up missing tinware ready for when I pull the engine for a good clean and resolve oil leaks.

Hi All,
This is my panel van. Had it for a while now. Was already half converted to day van with full width R&R bed and fully lined/insulated. I plan to lower it, new 16" wheels/alloys with low profile tyres. I think I'll keep the original paintwork/patina, adds to the character!

We picked up 'Sir Walter' a week before Christmas (as a bit of a pressie to ourselves).
So I am still discovering all of the little problems that make him unique...!

Hello all,

I am new to the forum.

This is a bit of infromation on my van as well as photos, i purchased her last year locally after seeing her on eBay. She has only 100,000 genuine miles on the clock - runs like a dream. She had just had a new gearbox fitted at Cogbox transmissions and the bodywork was very clean, paintwork original Marsala red. Paintwork was a little tired and dull, so she has recently undergone a complete respray, by my partner who runs a body shop locally.
She has a 1900 CC petrol engine. We use her a lot to stay at a campsite near RAF Mildenhall as my son is a keen Aircraft enthusiast and photographer!
I also enjoy the VW shows with Betsy, my hobby is to carry on improving my van and keeping everything as original as i can. Saying that i am open to anyone who can recommend a comfortable 3/4 rock and roll bed, as the original one is very uncomfortable! so many available not sure which to go for?
Found the ashtray that was missing from the dash, after a kind member gave me the link to A very helpful guy named Mike at nw_vw
Next job for next week is replacing leaking slave cylinder!

Heres mine, ive bare metal restored it now. First pic is when i picked it up non-runner and covered in synthetic paint/house paint which had a badly mixed 2pac primer underneath that had reacted with subsequent paint to create a nightmare.

Image

the black is the badly mixed 2pac primer/something like that. Never seen black primer before so this is a first. Most of the blue wasnt even bonded to the black, came off like a tedious wallpaper.

Image

and here is now back in original colours.

Bought off fleaBay in 2007 unseen (I was lucky) as a white hi top with an diy caravanesque interior made in someone's shed.

He was born in 1985 as a 1.9 RHD Caravelle twin slider and at some point belonged to a magician (hence the username).

He now sports a Westy interior and pop top in a Rustoleum rollered blue with a DF engine and lives in Lancashire. He enjoys trips to the Lakes mostly and will be going to Cornwall for 10 days in the summer.

This year I'm going to touch up the paintwork, will see how that does rollering / painting here and there not whole panels.

He has several issues; fridge not working (was 2 years ago), pop top is looking a bit tired and could do with replacing, plan to get one from Campervan Culture but not sure who / where can fit it. He has a knocking/tapping sound from the rear n/s. CV joint maybe. He also does not like a full tank of fuel as he spit it back out!
