PROPEX PROBLEM

Post by jeffj »

Have a problem with propex heater?

When first switched on fan will rotate then stop.

Supplied direct power to fan and it works okay.

Assume it is a fault in the circuit board. Does anyone know somebody who would be able to check out?

Fan fails to complete one rotation and lockout light then comes on.

Spoke to propex and electrical unit (Part No 6008) obsolete.

Are you sure the battery is good? Propex are very sensitive to a drop in voltage. I can't remember the exact values - anything below 11.5v might be iffy and the unit will behave like you describe. Also if the gas supply. Is blocked, the fan will spin for a few seconds while the burner tries to ignite and then shuts down. - had a similar problem and it was a tiny bit of grit blocking the gas jet.

try just switching to the fan mode only, should run even with a lowish battery, geta charger hooked up give it juice any flavour and you should hear the fan speed up when powered.
if above is correct then confirmed gas supply and repeat but on heat setting,oh and turn the stat to max

If you have a mains hook up try it with the cable plugged in. Also check the exhaust and inlet pipes (probably under the van) aren't blocked in any way.

Early start today.

Tried it with mains hook up no luck. Power to propex unit only comes from leisure battery and mains hook up. The main battery will not power any of the internal equipment ie fridge, lights, water pump, propex?

Checked volts only 11.15v at control unit and 10.5v at heater.

Removed unit fron van and set up on bench with gas bottle and fully charged 12v battery. Now works.

Need to check wiring in van. Mark Foss is over today so will get him to have a quick look.

Glad you are getting there :ok, but note = not a good idea to power your fridge from a battery. Fridges pull about 7 amps and will kill your battery in no time. Fridge should only run off 12 volts whilst the engine is running. (p.s. = Sorry if you already knew this ;))

Mark is looking at wiring now. He said the same about fridge and it is wired this way.

Had a 1986 Autosleeper before this one and internal lights, water pump worked from both batteries?

to my knowledge they should only work from the leisure, and the fridge only when engine running.

Early start did not help today.

Refitted propex and tried with fully charged battery. Still the same, will not fire up?

Stripped out again and tried on bench with thermostat attached this time and works fine?

Think have a dodgy wire or gas flow?

Going to run new wire in first when I get chance.
