some progress today. New Rubber to steering and a clean up of washer tank and surrounding environ when i dropped it out
Image
New poly bushes to the steering rack which was dropped off to clean and treat the cross member. Those bushes were another thing that turned up in the mystery box of parts that came with the doka
Image
Dry run of the upper wishbones - again OE bushes that came in the doka lucky dip box planning to leave this all fairly loose until all in place up front ?

We have had several goes at building up the rear drums with the new spring kit (group buy with Patrick a few years back) but can't seem to find a happy place with it all. There are 4 spings the same - the ones that connect horizontally just under the adjuster. I have a pair of OE drums made up on the shelf and have also kept the used spring sets that came off this van - both these sets have 'handed' springs in this area. As can be seen in the pic the new springs clash with the adjuster and / or run across the adjuster hole at the rear which would render it useless. One of these springs in each drum needs rotating 180' (so it would mirror its partner ) but this cannot be done as it would then be 180' wrong on the other end of the spring where it locates in the shoe. I seem to remember some discussion about these spring kits some time ago.... I believe Patrick had his brakes done with his kit at Brickwerks. Maybe this is a duff kit , or maybe the handed springs are NLA. Thoughts? Experiences? cheers

one of the springs in the 16" kit is wrong and you have to reuse the old one. I can't tell you which one, Simon might be able to?..

Not sure when the front diff and shafts were stripped from the vehicle but it was before the PO picked it up. So will nice to get the van whole again. The 16" front diff took a bit of finding as did the front shafts ( the larger diameter ones) . Had them on the shelf quite some time along with the new 16" dampers and VW Violet springs. Ready for uprights just need the bolts for lower and upper ball joints to catch up with me

The missing M14 arrived for rear backing plate but thread in hole was messy so had to strip and a quick retap. Swapped the moody springs on the brakes for the handed used ones. Sitting much better now

I'd like to blame the baby for slowing me up but it was glacial pre. offspring. Shall be booking an MOT soon....for this time next year sounds about right
Interestingly I think I will be one of the first people to be testing the new fine system for not declaring your import within 28 days . I am exempt as the car was imported before the new rule but I'm betting the NOVA. Peeps would not have had much chance to test this part of the rules. Computer Says No.

The daily fine is capped at several grand !!

Put whatever date you want on the NOVA that suits you when you do it online

Just put the import date/date available to you within 28 days of doing form. Job jobbed. :ok

Hmmm. I do have all the shipping docs / carnet etc so should be all hunky dory. I've not done one since the fine system started. I figure they would ask for proof of date one way or another ?

Nope, don't ask for diddly squat for private.

Do it online. As previous , just put import/date available to you within 28 days of application date. Bish bash bosh. Email within ten mins saying it's been received. Another one ten mins later saying no tax/duty and to allow 48hrs for DVLA to be notified.

Honestly chap, don't overthink it and worry.

I certainly don't think they went through the video from Dover to verify that we had actually brought the van in behind Simon's doka last month and we didn't stop, it's just a paperwork exercise online. But what happens when you do the import registration I don't know but I'm betting if you've got a nova they don't actually check anything.
