Well I had a few work things to take care of in Belgium so tied that in with this and finally managed to hop over to Holland to seal the deal on the new truck. I shall call, it MANAGON..

Image

The history of it is that it was used in the assistance of laying pipeline for a German company. It then got bought by a a guy from Belgium then the guy who I bought it from drove it to Holland where it has been sat in a barn for a few years waiting for me to find it. I have already had the past owner from Belgium contact me to fill me in what his plans were for it and am kind of glad he didn't go through with grafting two different ends of an LT van on the back!

The good points are that it is already registered just under 7500KG so I can drive it on my car licence. It is the 8.150 engine so a big win there and it will have the higher geared axels but it will be able to handle a tyre size up no worries. With it being a truck it has air brakes, I have never driven a vehicle with air breaks before.. Jeez! I had to peal my face from the windscreen. It also has the long wheel base chassis so I can have a 4 - 4.5m long camper pod on the back.

It is getting the Dutch MOT done on it over there so I can drive it back either on trade plates or on export plates. Then a composite box is being made over there with just the side door and maybe the crawl through to the cab done and the camper sub frame and chassis mounts. You can not just simply bolt a box to the chassis as it is designed to flex so I am leaving that job to the experts. I also picked up an an aux fuel tank for €100 that will give an extra 260L put on the other side, this will mean I can easily drive back from Morocco on cheap fuel and won't be such a killer to run.

Should be an interesting couple of years ahead!

Had an hour or so to sketch up the habitation box on The Managon.

The Managon was taken out of it's nest last week to the truck MOT station across town in Holland to get a pre MOT check done on it by the Man truck MOT centre to get a feel of what the big fella need after being sat hidden away for nearly 10 years!

Image

Pretty happy with that so happy to push forward with the project and hop back over to NL in a few weeks to do some work and finalise the composite habitation box design as well as a few other bits and bobs..

It also got it's rear end whipped off ready for more accurate measuring for the sub frame and spring mountings to allow for the chassis flex when driving off the road.

Had to buy some new tyres so went as big as I could to up the gearing to get a decent 62MPH cruising speed with some mighty and meaty 365 80 R20 Michelin XZL's. Brand new these are getting on £500 each! but a quick call to Vrakking in NL and I picked some up with 80% tread left for £276 each. Still a big chunk of money for second hand tyres but not as bad as it could have been.

jed watch your speed with the tyres you have there has been lots of issues with running higher speed with big offroad tyres. also the age of the tyre can also be an issue
