Camper Jam Syncro rides for charity 6-7 July

Post by toomanytoys »

Hi
We had a break last year but I would like to try and run this again. Apparently we were missed.

So..
Primarily, I am looking for Syncro drivers willing to ferry passengers around the awesome little quarry at Weston Park over the course of the weekend

Your van will possibly get quite dirty, it will take a few bumps underneath and if you rub a tree or rock..... well.....
There is always the potential for your van to get a knock, so if you cant handle that then please don't put yourself and your van forward.. As far as I can remember the only damage so far, was an end cap and a tree ricie Ed a slit has scuff from a doka side hinge.
If you are a confident driver off road, then damage is unlikely, but of course , not impossible....

So, you have to be quite competent and confident off road, you vehicle must be in good fettle for a couple hours of G gear driving (And more) at a time.
Ideally as many seats as possible with seat belts.
Don't mind getting it muddy (outside and in) or having screaming girls and the occasional weeping man in your van...
The usual proviso for off roading that everything loose is securely stowed etc as we cant have the public clouted by a flying object..

If we get several vans, then nobody needs to do more than 1 morning or afternoon session, so the dirt and load can be spread around a little and means we have a variety of vehicles on the go to see..

We have raised an awful lot of money over the last few years, We will prob keep the charges to £2 per person as its cheap for the ride and brings in repeat passengers..

2017 we took a total of £1740 for charity... :ok :ok Ferrying around 600 passengers in 2017...

Remember we don't take anything out of the pot for our fuel or anything... every penny given goes to the charity.. :ok
Take a look in the past events forum for details on what went on in 2017...

Of course.. we would also appreciate any support acts you can bring along for marshalling duties in the woods, customers in the que, cajoling passing people into taking a ride...etc etc..

So.. please show your interest here and when we have a few vans sorted I can get more info and arrange stuff...

Looking forward to making this another great event..

I would like to thank you for your continued support with this.. :ok

Put me down again for the role of carnival barker - unfortunately our high top is probably too tall to get around the course.

Could prove benefical to up it £3 Simon, as many of the CJ are all to willing to spend more than £2 on an ice cream and about a £5 on a 4 minute dodgem ride.

Happy to marshall, course repair etc

No charity yet.. it’s a discussion we need to have.

Worth considering James. No idea what stuff costs down on the “entertainments”

To be able to run 4 vans per session (the optimum number to keep the flow and not keep stopping on laps) we need a few vans if you only want to drive 1 session.. the more drivers, the less you need to drive.

This really is a unique event that no other VW show in the world (as far as I am aware) can offer. You can take great pride in yourselves for participating.. we usually get a few photos in VWC&C etc too.

I am also keen for us to do the communal feast again as that’s a bit of a Syncronauts tradition and brings everyone together.

Its at times like this the dodoka would be so good to have around still. How many years since it was around? 10 maybe.

Aidan and I were talking about that last week. Great idea but not really workable in truth...

We really could do with a few more drivers to do a stint, it takes the pressure off those that always do this charity event, If you just do 1 session, we would be more than grateful. :ok

Any interested parties that want to find out more about it can PM me, so you don't have to publicly commit right now...

There must be a few owners out there that are up for a couple or 3 hours showing what there van is capable of for charity.. :?: :?: :?:

More drivers we have the less work we all have to do (Well, maybe with the exception of yours truly :rofl )

PM'd you Si as I can't commit this year yet, but can safely say that it was very good fun in 2017, even though I think my van was the lowest and did the most sliding on it's belly... If anyone's thinking about it, yes there are some bouncy bits and a tight corner or two, but I just took my time and everyone I gave a lift to came away smiling including me. One young chap I think had 3 or 4 runs over the two days, had my own fan club! :D
