Difflock light came on for xmas - is it just being festive ?

Postby zak » 27 Dec 2018, 15:09

Weird

Driving home last night and the rear difflock light came on and stayed on. On this morning's drive it's not on. Should I be worried or just put tinsel around it if it comes on again ?

It would appear from your wording that perhaps your difflocks are not regularly exercised so that you are familiar with their operation and know they function properly.

First thing to do would be to check that the diff lock knob isn't pulled out. Then jack up the rear wheels and check that the diff is not actually locked. If you turn one wheel the other should rotate in the opposite direction.

If that's OK then you're probably looking at an electrical fault - a short somewhere in the lamp wiring.

Thanks Gary, yes haven't operated difflocks in a couple of months. The knob was definitely in and never noticed anything different in the 40 min drive home after the light came on. I wondered if it's an electrical fault that anyone has come across before. From a search on here I see that there is a PCB behind the knob.

More likely the d/l switch on the transaxle has a short?
