Well I guess I am the brave/stupid one then. I have wanted a Syncro and after parting with my multivan last year (which was a £100 scrapper when I got him), I have had a van sized hole to fill. I bought a highly top Cali but that didn't do it...this just looked like my original van did and I thought I want to save it.

I'm winging it on the syncro stuff, I have a lot to learn, but maybe that dream of green laning is a little bit closer now. Aidan I know you are very busy, this is by no means a five minute project, but I would welcome any advice, or opportunity to discuss gearbox options, if when/how much etc to get it up and running on the road again.

First things first is to get it from Scotland

Welcome to the early rhd syncro sub-clique :))
It looks like you paid less than the price of a syncro suspension conversion kit so its already a winner.
Good luck, mine looked ropey and had bad repairs, but it was straight and square.

Thanks very much, yes I thought if nothing else there are a lot of parts there to go towards converting a 2WD...but a RHD syncro has got to be worth saving....

I'm going to stash it away for a while, get saving some funds and find some parts

Seems like a good price for a donor Syncro or long term project if you can do most of the work yourself.
I’m doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion and bought all the parts separately but there is lots of little items I still need. Your first priority is to hunt for a gearbox :)
Good luck with the project :ok
Mike.

Thanks Mike, yes I think it's a start and an opportunity to add my own stamp on it.

Yes I'm sure there will be a long shopping list. If I can get that and get it up and running in 2wd initially that will be a good starting point...then can tackle the VC etc etc

All in good time, need to ask santa for some bundles of cash or a supermarket sweep freebie visit to go Westy or similar

I wouldn't shop at "Go Rusty" if I were you, they really dont seem to understand that surface prep, plating and paint are essential in this damp corner of the world...

Probably realised the romantic idea was gonna be a pretty expensive one.

Think it was a little over £2k on eBay, but probably cost &3-400 to hace it transported from
Scotland, £2k isn’t to bad a price but no gearbox or diff is gonna kill it unless someone’s lucky enough to fall on a cheap syncro box, If it’s just for looks a standard box would get it rolling but still £500 minimum

Just after it was sold the then? New owner got hold of me in connection with putting it back on the road. Then realising what was going to be involved from what I gathered was going to sell it on. Not sure what has happened though. It needed in excess of £10k thrown at it just to get it back on the road without
paint, interiour etc.
