Arctic DOKA

Postby mattwilde66 » 04 Oct 2018, 21:09

Greetings all,

I'm the new owner of this little bundle of joy. I've not got a name yet but I'm sure it will come. It's my second venture into the world of the T3. My last time didn't last long but I'm hoping i'll keep this one for a lot longer.

Its an ex-swedish 2.1 DJ thats been resident in Norway for a good few years now. I had a few issues when I bought it and it took me a few months to get it registered but thats all sorted now and I can finally get round to sorting it out.

I'll need as much help as I can so any help will be appreciated.

It drives OK and I drove it the 100 miles back home on red-plates with a few little niggles but on its own steam which was the main thing. It seems to idle high when the engine is up to temperature. I've been reading up on a few posts regarding this. I've already posted about the rotten gutters. Now that its registered in my name i can the crusty bit sorted and see how bad the holes are.

Hi Matt, I like that a lot! You have opening rear windows and a great canopy (vindic / alusingen / nato canopy or whatever)! Very envious.

Does it have the other Swedish bits like mine: heated seats, headlights always on and you can remove the key and walk away leaving the engine running but the van locked up?

Cheers chaps. :ok

The canopy was made by a Swedish company called Karossan. It looks like they still make custom back ends for all sorts of vehicles. I've taken the storage tubes off now. The front mounts have made big holes in the gutters. It looks a bit more respectable now. All the gas struts are shot and the doors dont quite fit. Just needs a little lube and TLC. The van sits a bit low at the back so it must weigh quite a bit. Either that or the rear springs are shot!

I'll have a look and see if the lights do that. They didn't work at all to begin with which was a worry when I drove it back. I managed to get one dipped beam working before the sun set! Its got a daft strobe light under the grille and the main beam has been swapped with HID bulbs which isn't legal so i'll have to change all that back at some stage.

Its got the switch for the heated seats but they dont seem to work. Needs more looking into. Its got electric windows but no switches so I'll try and get hold of them somehow but I've got a funny feeling they might be rare to fine. If not i'll just fit some truck mirrors.

Were any of you at BusFest? I was there in my T4 Syncro. The rest of the T3 syncro folk made us feel well at home. There were some awesome machines there.

Aye there's something about a DOKA. I'm a sucker for any van though :) The mrs is slowly warming to it too. She hated it to begin with. Its come in handy too recently lugging tyres from the workshop now that its winter time. It just needs a new windscreen and I can get it through its EU-control (MOT)

The other day I was extremely lucky when I did something stupid!

I was charging the battery and after I tested it, I left it out of gear (I never use the hand brake). I came back out an hour later and wondered who had borrowed the van until I quickly realised my mistake

DOH!!! Luckily there wasn't anything out the back to hit.

I'm looking to fit a ladder or some easy way of getting onto the room of the canopy so I can use it as a base for my photography. I'm a bit obsessed with the local light shows around this time of year

You guys are always welcome to pop in. I've got Yorkshire gold [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES].

We're just north of the Arctic Circle near Bodø in a region called Beiarn. Most folk head for Lofoten which is the most amazing place.

The Atlantic highway is a little over hyped for me when you get there and compare other routes. It's still an great piece of engineering.

We are definitely up for winter in Norway. We went at Easter last year and only as far as Bergan and Lillehammer, but it was great. We’ve visited Tromso in winter and I’ve regularly flown around Bardufoss and Trondheim, so I can’t wait to see it from the ground.

Nice part of the world.

I remember spending Mid Summer Day one year travelling to Mo I Rana for the midnight sun, heading further North in the morning into the Arctic Circle towards Bodø, before turning right and heading down to Arvidsjaur on my way back home in Värmland in central Sweden.

Just for a sense of scale for those who haven't been, that's further than John o' Groats to Lands' End, no motorways

I miss proper Winters :(
