Obscure fuel tank question...

Postby silverbullet » 31 May 2018, 13:07

Since I will be changing the syncro fuel system from early 1.9 carb wbx to efi spec, I may need the internal filter, but I don't know if the early carb spec tank has that part inside the fuel return "kidney dish" or not :/

ETKA suggests that all wbx syncro have part 251133511 (the filter) which also retains the dish in the bottom, whereas diesels just have the dish and a wingnut device to hold it down.

However the part is NLA since 2008 (it was also used on some Audi cars) https://www.thesamba.com/vw//forum/view ... highlight=

Don't suppose that anyone has got a spare they could release, or even one that I could borrow to copy, so that I could make one/some from non-plastic materials?

Hi Ian, I've been looking for the dish and filter myself for a while now too, if you do manage to recreate them I would be very interested in a set :ok

I understand that all tanks should have the fuel return dish (petrol or diesel) at least thats what ETKA suggests.
If I can source a pattern, we could have them made from brass. I am not making them in stainless!

Ian, is it both the kidney dish and the filter you wish to borrow? I think I've got them in my spares den.

I have had 2 early 1.9 petrol syncro's I did engine conversions to that had neither the filter or the kidney bowl fitted so had to source and fit for injection.

Looks like I need both, whilst I can probably copy the filter I'm not sure that I can replicate the dish.

Hi Ian,
my early 1.9 had neither fitted but BW managed to source new ones for me a couple of years back. They did have some on the shelf but that was a while ago. Worth a call as they were surprisingly cheap.
regards Duncan.

Hold fire! I now have a 2.1 caravelle syncro tank complete making its way to me, but a loan of the parts would still be welcome.

Patrick: it can wait until SP if you are attending?
