Gas supply on a Syncro

Do you lot with Syncro Westies have the underslung gas tank, or is it a bit vulnerable under there if off roading?
Is it better to do away with it and have a gas bottle inside in the kitchen unit?
I'm fitting a Westy interior to mine and wasn't sure if I should go for the External tank.

There are advantages with both approaches.

On the down side having the external bottle fitted underneath compromises your breakover clearance, but so does the waste water tank which is also located under the sill on a standard Westy install. This means that there is a risk of catching and damaging these items if you do any offroading, and Westfalia did make a bash plate to protect these items, which I believe CVC sell copies of.

However, on the plus side, the external bottle means you have less risk of possible gas leaks inside, and you wouldn't need to vent the interior cupboards. You also don't lose the storage space inside.

We need the gas tank for cooking and the fridge, and we also use the BBQ take-off for water heating and external cooking, so find the external tank to be the better option.

I had a westy underslung tank to fit but I sold it and I went with an internal bottle that can be refilled like the external one, more info at the link below.

Been giving a leisure tank some thought. Have one fitted under the 2wd and it works well, but I was thinking about mounting one under the front skid pan on the syncro. Anyone done this, I havnt measured it up yet but there is space unused under there. probably not on but I expect someone has tried.

I've thought about it. Finding a vapour take-off tank which will fit at the appropriate angle above the OE underbody protection plate and not foul the steering parts is the hurdle. The rest of it is just bracketry and gas plumbing.
I will do it when I've found the right tank.

Patrick, I was thinking about a cylindrical tank 200mm diameter by whatever the length is, the same as I have in the 2wd. its not that big, about 20L last me 4-5 weeks using fridge and cooker. Dont need any larger than that.
