The BIG OUTDOORS, date is May 27/28th. location will be Tiverton in Devon and we will be there, booking not available till early next month, cost will be £95 per family unit including camping I understand, more info on the 4x4 adventures website.
Hope to see some of you there :ok

Roger, we really enjoyed this event when it was in Wales last October. Because we booked and went as a group of 5 vans we got a discount, so may be worth holding back to see if 5 or more want to go this time.
It's a bit of a distance for us, but a bank holiday weekend so there's a good chance we'll go.

Does this event include some offroading or is it a ' sitting around getting drunk ' affair ?

We didn't do the lanes last year, but there are usually opportunities to do them. Last time you could buy a book of pre-recced routes and head off. They're pretty open to ideas, so we can ask for more info before committing to anything.

I have dropped them an email, so will report back.

Ok, just heard from James at Big Outdoors:

"Hi Shaun,

Good to hear from you.

This years event will be near Tiverton, Devon where we have our drive round
day routes which means we will be offering escorted convoy drives on them
over both Saturday and sunday (on different tracks each day). So yes there
will be a driving element.

We are hoping to combine a short (60min) navigation element to this driving
option too.

Due to personal circumstances Victoria wont be with us for the next Big
Outdoors, we have another team we have used in the past for the bushcraft
phase.

There may be an additional navigation teach and hopefully a star gazing
element for the 2017. All other activties are planned to run as before.

Prices and group discount as before, no change.

Thank you for your continued support with us, we have followed the forum
discussions with interest!

Entry will be opening beginning of Feb.

All the best.

Regards

James Trembath"

James is ex Army and the last event ran on rails with no nonsense. For those that don't know, the bushcraft phase is cooking and preparing food caught in the wild - duck, pheasant, pidgeon etc. Many activities are free, but some additional stuff you pay for. You are of course welcome to base yourself on site and head out each day to your own lanes etc. There were also first aid activities, talks on bush mechanics, vehicle prep and the opportunity to look at other people's trucks etc. Unlike AO, the talks and activities weren't trying to sell you anything and the event had a very small commercial footprint. Any commercial stuff was relevant, so no T2 bay and splitty nonsense, nor T5 glitter. It's also not all about land rovers, indeed our vans attracted a lot of interest.

If we are interested I'll start a new thread and we can put our names down. Booking opens in Feb and if we get enough interest, we get a discounted admission. We do have to book as a group to qualify though.

Sadly the Wedgy's can't make this event as we have a prior engagement booked in already.

However if anyone is havering & unsure of whether to attend or not, this was one of the best meets we went to last year and we thoroughly enjoyed the mix of activities and vehicles (there's always something you can plagerise from someone else's set-up no matter the base vehicle!). Everyone was very welcoming and interested in the Syncro's, so we enjoyed showing them off. It was nice to have non-4x4 activities too for those in your party who would rather try other things.

Elsewhere in the posts is a more fulsome review from last years attendees that might give you an idea of what to expect.........

We also liked the small and unobtrusive commercial presence.

So apologies that we can't join you but hope you all have a fab time.

Kirsty, David & Esther & Biscuit-dog!

We're in Rog, the Syncro's a bit poorly so may have to drag the shed with Hil's van and ride shotgun if that's ok ?

I'm trying to convince Mandy as we are already provisionally booked for something else that weekend. Watch this space :)

We can't make this unfortunately as we've already got something booked in for that weekend, but it sounds like it would have been interesting.
