Syncronauts Meet ups for 2017?

Postby Wedgbury » 02 Jan 2017, 17:31

Hi All,

I am just sorting out the calendar for 2017 and putting in dates for various things etc and wondered what Sycronaut meets were planned this year??

Are the usual Camperjam plans in place again this year? (have those dates) I obv know Busfest as it's 5mins from us but wondered about others?

Have to say we really enjoyed the Big Outdoors in October and would go again (much more interesting than Adventure Overland at Stratford Racecourse), think they also run similar in May if anyone else interested?

Anyhoo.......if anyone has dates or meet ups in mind we'd love to know them!! (assuming you can put up with the Wedgy Clan & dog!!)

Thanks all,

Kirsty xxx :ok

Brilliant minds :ok Just started looking at our calendar too.

I see Campervan is a week later this year, 7-9th July, does that mean synrocropenence will move back too?

I've e-mailed James Trembath - the organiser of the Big Outdoors events and had the following back from him:

Wales Greenlane Spa weekend: 19th-20th Feb '17 details via: http://www.4x4adventures.co.uk/main/wales laning weekends.htm Also some details on Facebook page. Looks quite good - liking staying at a Spa hotel rather than a field for once!! Green lane Day looks well thought out & planned.

The Spring Big Outdoors will be on 26th-28th May 2017 Location to be confirmed (may be same as October 16 event or Sister site at Wellington). Price will be the same as 2016 events with group discounts. Further details to follow. Again check out their Facebook Page.

The Autumn Big Outdoors dates TBC.

Camperjam at Weston Park is Fri 7th - Sun 9th July (have Club 80-90 been asked to do Charity rides again????)

so Sycropendence, if its running, would be the weekend before: Fri 30th June - Sun 2nd July. Can anyone confirm?

BusFest at Malvern is Fri 8th Sept-Sun 10th Sept.

Adventure Overland at Stratford is 23rd-24th Sept.

Has anyone got other dates to add....??

Cheers,

Kirsty :ok

I've now had further info from James:

There will only be one Big Outdoors Event in Spring this year, the Autumn event will not be running. I have the impression that they are trying to run a few more laning weekends this year with one 'show / event' in the Spring to help people prep their vehicles and think about what they may need etc, inc. the First Aid & Emergency repairs workshops.

Those of us who attended the last big outdoors really enjoyed it - there is a full review somewhere else in this forum.

Regards,

Kirsty

Hi all
i dont know how many of you know but there was a syncronauts agm last month, and the lack of people on line was very disappointing as its an open forum where members can discuss what sort of event(s) they would like to attend/organise for the coming year. As well as an opportunity to comment on the past years events.
now as for the events that have been listed so far, i have to question them as they are not syncro events ( bar syncropendence) as far as i am concerned as sitting in an enclosure is not somthing that in my head is a syncro event. i just dont get driving for a weekend away parking up and camping with lots of outher vans trucks land rovers etc and talking crap. we have these wonderful vans, pick ups and campers and they should be drivern and used,
now i do understand that bombing down a tight green lane may not be for every one, how ever there have been many pay and play type events over the years where there was almost zero risk of any damage, and most importantly valuable experience could be gained based upon real life experience.
recently simon offered to arrange an event in his local area i i say bring in on as he sceamed to tick all the boxes, social thing, local site seeing (touring) and some green laning for those who wish.
last year nick jes and myself organised an east kent green laning weekend it was not perfect and there were a few unforeseen "cock" ups, but i think every one had a good time. and people came from as far as ireland and wales.
so as we are all quite spread out through out the country why not sort out an event in your area?

rant over

all the best neil

Would anyone be interested in going to Eire syncro 2 (the horse strikes back !) maybe later in the summer something like this
https://youtu.be/CjduAS_gFcQ this https://youtu.be/G-Qp1CjHJzw and this https://youtu.be/bM3Tms623BM
Think it's about time again for an Irish syncro event ;)

I think the title of the post sums everything up without getting into arguments.

Meet ups as apposed to club events but these can be included. We all like to get out in these great little vehicles weather green laning , shows etc so Kirsty was putting forward some ideas.

A few of us go to Camperjam have to pay to get in then drive our vans around for several hours a day around an off road coarse for other VW fans. But over the last few years have made a far amount of money for a couple of charities all well organized by Simon.

Always a good turn out at Busfest, again we have to pay to get in but the organizers have to make money to hold these events. Its just a pity we do not have a Syncronaughts stand on site for whatever reason.

Overland Show at Stratford is always a good turn out of Syncronaughts amongst the Landrovers.

Big Outdoors was something different again last year with a few of us showing off our trucks to a wider group off offroaders/overlanders.

If any body else has a few ideas throw them in the mix so everyone can see what they want to do and possibly meet up, have a few drinks and a chat. Eire syncro 2 might be a good one although I think it may involve more than a few drinks :D .

Mr Baxter looks like putting on something in the North.

So any ideas to go in the pot, handy to have them all in one place, club events I assume will be posted up as well.

No rants though
David :D

I really like the idea of what Simon suggested, just need to agree a date.

Good idea to chuck all the ideas in the pot so people can express an interest, it's always far easier with dates even if they are just proposed dates.

Hats off and a big thanks to all the organisers of these events, its not an easy thing to do. I looked into doing something in Shropshire but quickly realised I just hadn't the free time at the moment with my studies going on.

I'm happy trying to organise a green laning weekend if 1 or 2 Syncro owners from Berkshire or surrounding counties join me to share the workload. I'm no expert in the area, but looks like there's a fair few byways in West Berks, South Oxfordshire and down toward Marlborough. I can easily map a route electronically, but would prefer to go checking / scouting with another van rather than risk getting stuck alone.

Alternatively my local 4x4 club organises good play'n'play days on army sites around North Hampshire, normally with wild camping onsite the night before. Still waiting for 2017 dates, but happy to post up here if there's interest in getting a few Syncro's along. Maybe green laning Saturday, wild camp Sat night, pay'n'play Sunday

Let me know if there's any interest.

Thats the great thing about being the organiser is that you can decide which are the official routes routes  right so I suppose Id better round up the other Irish syncronauts up, sort out the tunnel of goats and make some itineries for the french, will also try and include some local attractions

Oh a quick question what dates suit people with school kids is it between the end of july and september so basically just august ? Not sure as the kids here get three months off

Slight aside, but relevant to any organized meeting:

I understand that the law regarding public liability insurance and private land has changed relatively recently.

It is now a legal requirement for any function, even for those held on private land, to have public liability insurance to cover against the eventuality that someone from outside wanders in and gets injured, even if they are not authorized or permitted to be there.

(I was told about this by someone who is very much involved in motorbike trialing, which often uses private land for events. The costs could kill off this whole grass-roots scene)

Signed disclaimers from participants are not worth the paper they are written upon, legally the event organizer will be liable for all claims.

This has come down from the European High Court, make of it what you will.

I agree with Neil's sentiments that scratchy lanes are not everyone's cup of tea, but equally driving a long way to sit all weekend in a field doing not much is hardly exciting use of you syncro. Maybe this is a sign of the times? Syncros are no longer a cheap 4x4 option so why risk damaging it offroad (I have said this before) The early syncros are now "oldtimers" (more than 30 years old) and there is no doubting that they are a classic; it's a different scene altogether.
Better to use it as much as possible, it's a perfectly usable everyday big car and comes into it's own when conditions get challenging. Der Uberallrad.

Perhaps syncronauts need to evolve to better reflect this changing demographic of ownership & use? This may well have been discussed within the AGM but like so many others I was not involved, so I'll take whatever results from it and try not to gripe
