M code sticker deciphering

Postby hotpod » 22 Jul 2016, 08:55

I am trying to get some clarity on the origins and original spec of a mates syncro.
From searching the forums i have found the vw-mplate.com site but it doesn't work until all the bits are filled in and the format of the top boxes doesn't match what should be on the M sticker and i don't have all the numbers anyway.

I'm not fussed about the actual M codes at the bottom as they are quite easy to discover but i would like to know stuff like what it started out as and what country it was destined for.
I cant find out what JRE means which is at the beginning of the M codes at the bottom which doesnt seem to get a mention in all the sites with M codes?

i think 253 = Kombi, Ambulance, Multivan; LHD, but have no idea what the second 3 letters mean

at the top i can see 7-6033 123 21 ( i think) but i presume there are bits missing before that and all the example stickers i can find online seem to have letters at the end not numbers.

Any help as usual much appreciated.

Thanks for the link. I found my pickup white-sticker data worked fine, and I actually have some *new info*, woohoo ! The format of the 'sort no' on my sticker was a bit different to the site but I simply typed it sequentially and it worked. Can't see the 'Sort no' clearly in your pic, what's before -7-6033 ? If you can't read it try just putting in a random 2 digit number.

253 567 is the vehicle type. It's referenced in ETKA, under V-pages, but TBH that doesn't really have any more info than you probably already know.

http://www.teedrie.nl/t3-typeaanduiding/

the Dutch T3 site has the best decoding info on thanks to Michel Gaastra :ok

thus we know that 253 567 is a lhd Kombi 9 seater with 1.9 78ps engine and 4wd, ie Syncro and was specced up so that it was badged as a Caravelle C

though tbh I don't know if you could buy so basic a Kombi it was badged as a Transporter

Thanks Aidan. Dan, following-up from above, I checked the metal plate under the LH cab seat, that *also* has the white-sticker 'sort no.', so you could try that on mplate.com or teedrie.nl.

PS. The Sort No. aka. Fahrzg. Ident Nr. is the three numbers at the top left of the metal plate.

I like 'M-Plate.com'. Via Google site search I find there are 31 records only for Syncros:

This is a nice looking spec:

I shall check the under-seat plate on ours now, using these sites. The white sticker is long gone and I am merely curious about what it originally had fitted (i.e. what's been nicked off it over the years)

Anyone else think m-plate.com is awesome ?

TBH it's very nearly what I think the Syncro Registry should be like.

Add on a bit for uploading a photo, sort the search function, and we're done !

I have a 'birth cert' for my Multivan and half the codes are missing or have no designation.
