Syncro Stormtrooper build thread - something different!

Post by poshbuggers »

Had another stab at documenting my Syncro build. Took a while but it's now up to date and being worked on regularly.

At the moment the van looks like this, but changes are happening all the time.

It may not be everyone's idea of what you should do with a Syncro, but there are plenty of original vans out there to cover that. For me the criteria is that it does what it was designed for and we have fun with it.

Mechanicals are being refurbished and upgraded where time and money permit. The GTI conversion runs faultlessly so now I am working on the body, interior and cosmetics.

Have a look if you fancy a read about something a little different: http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/ ... omes-alive

Just read that. Love it. I can see some Dehler t3 and t4 similarities in some of the pics. Have never seen any of those concepts before. Will be following this one :ok

Looks interesting. Did VW actually build any of those Liberty Vans? I've never seen them before.

I think VW outsourced the building of some of these concept vehicles to existing parts manufacturers, much as they still do with MS Design.

When they didn't take the designs on for production the manufacturers themselves began to produce their own ranges based on those parts.

Much of the Projektzwo, Taifun, Dehler and Liberty Van designs are in the concept drawings VW produced so it's logical that the 'Traveller Jet', 'Magma' and 'US Study' vans were the result of those designs. The design similarities are clear. You can see the production results i what we now call the Multivan/Magnum, Carat and Tristar models. Things like the square lights, big bumpers and wheels all came out of that early design programme.
