Put brand new jacking point on an inch or so further back.

That's about it really chap. The rest is easily worked out ie trimming closing panel etc :ok

Thank you Elvis...some pictures of the work will help a lot

After a while, I finally had the chance to put 4 michelin XZL 7.50R16 on my syncro 16", and apparently they just fit perfectly with no interference issues :ok

This was my theory before putting them on:
Image
In the pic u see the front left wheel, looked from above,in the rest position (black)and at full steering(white)...as u can see the 7.50r16 gets even less close to the b-pillar than the 215/85R16..even if at rest position the 7.50 is way closer than the 215/85r16...

PS: sorry for my crap english...it's kinda hard to try and explain stuff like that

So, you've fitted that tyre with no mods?.. Wow! Am I right in thinking that's a 31" tyre? That does open my options up..

Yes that's exactly a 31 inches (78,74 cm)...but i guess it works because 7.50 are really narrow, so if u try to put for instance a 31x10.5R15 it will definitely need some arches and b-pillar mods because when steering the diagonal of the tire will be way longer than the 7,50 diagonal....hope u can get my point with my bad english explanation...also my syncro has 4cm spacers at front and rear and seikel springs....it won't work on a not lifted syncro 16 I reckon (like for 215/85R16)

thanks for that, i am lifted quite high (53cm hub to arch) will have a search now for AT or road tyres in that size. That size will really bring my revs down :D
65mph @ 3000rpm to be exact :D

Sorry it took so long

Here is front outrigger moved back, if you go to big on tyres they catch on the depth of the outrigger and on the return.

235/85/16 INSAs. These are quite a bit bigger than BFGs in same size

Image

Image

Stretched rear arches to accomodate the bad boys! :D Unfortunately the Syncro Specialist who made the arms didnt do a dry run and build them up off the van. Trailing arms have got to be reworked slightly where the front inner side of the tyre is near outer bush as it touched ever so slightly. Not to much work but annoying nether the less for the owner

Image

Leading edge of front arch has to be relieved ever so slightly but not major surgery. Just inner edge needs to be rolled slightly.

Unfortunately there's not much tires choice on that size...but I can tell u Michelin XZL are the best for all purposes....Revs are definitely so much better if u got 6.17 FD

I got 6.17 FD and 0.70 4th gear and I reached about 140km/h @4000 RPM

Can do but won't be until after half term now.

Silver bus is having a complete colour change inside and out, top to bottom so will get some before its in bits

Not a lot you really need pictures of TBH other than just to picture its position.

Remove old outrigger fully, ie drill all the old spot welds off from where it is attached to chassis rails etc. They can be bit of a bugger to remove in one piece so easier to dissect it with a cutting disc. The result you are looking for is the whole outrigger removed as if it never existed and with every spot/seam weld cleaned up and removed completely.

Part of the closing panel/end of out sill is removed as the outrigger goes onto this so the closing panel/end has to be fettled. Nothing major.

Pop new one on but further back, 30mm ish give or take. Melt them together. Done!

As previous 235/85/16 catch on the return/lip when going lock to lock, also under compression the rear of the tyre gets pushed into the outrigger and fowls it. Something chaps need to be aware of when do 16" arch conversions and want to go for bigger tyres :ok

Silentbay, those tyres look fantastic on a 16" and I like the fact that they are narrow and they fit so much better to the original rim.

I can buy a set of these Michelin XZL's here in Holland and I'm very tempted to buy them. Can you tell me if they are very noisy driving on the road?

Hi, it's kinda hard to say because everebody has its own parameters, but I definitely thought they were much noiser...
the thing that I don't like so far is the behaviour on icy snow and wet roads, but that could be because of they're not brand new and they could be kinda too stiff now...
